Why imaging supplies? Lets take a look at Hewlett Packard. Last year, 2002, Hewlett Packard reported six billion dollars in gross revenue for it's inkjet cartridge business. Did you read that? Six Billion Dollars! That was only for their inkjet cartridge business. Not their toner business and not their printer business. Just the sale of inkjet consumables.
The sale of toner and inkjet consumables in the United States alone, is in the hundreds of billions of dollars each and every year!
The truth of the matter is, that reselling cartridges made by the Big Five (Hewlett Packard, Epson, Canon, Brother, Xerox) is not going to work for a small business such as the one I am proposing for you to start. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is the federal law that governs consumer product warranties. Passed by Congress in 1975 it specifically states that the warranty on a product cannot be voided because the end user did not purchase nor use the manufacturers consumables.
You can see from the Federal laws I quoted here, Generic imaging supplies are legal and the manufacturer cannot tell you otherwise. Period. Now, lets talk about the kind of money that you can earn selling generic imaging supplies!
The Sherman & Clayton Antitrust Law is another winner in your corner. This law states that a manufacturer cannot force you to buy their consumables. They must allow you to buy and use consumables from other suppliers for their products.
Let me give you an example. The Hewlett Packard printer cartridge C4127X, made for the HP 4000 series Laser-jet printer originally debut on the market at $168 each. Today, this cartridge, even at discount, routinely sells for $128.99 at most large office supply stores. What if I told you, that I can sell you a generic one, that is identical in function, form and print quality for only $79.99? Would you buy it? What if I told you, that you could buy that cartridge at wholesale for less than $60? Less than $50? Less than $40?
If I told you anymore, I'd be giving away the secrets of this business. Well, the truth is, I do want to give away the secrets of this business. There is plenty of room for you to enter this business. In 2002, considering that all consumable sales in the United States were in the 100's of billions of dollars and the generic market only topped 1 Billion in sales, there is plenty of room for growth in this industry.
These are all Generic supplies. Can you tell the difference?
