FREE TUTORIAL EXAMPLE!
This is just one of our dozens of SWG Tutorials.
Become a Pistoleer in 6 Hours Thursday, September 26, 2003 Note: This tutorial is made for the “brand spanking new” player. We’re going straight from Novice Marksman all the way through Pistols IV, then to Novice Pistoleer….and yes that includes using the pathetically weak CDEF pistol. If you’re somewhere in the middle, just skip ahead to an appropriate section. Profession: To achieve our goal of Novice Pistoleer as quickly as possible, you MUST choose the Marksman profession for your character. Starting World: After doing much research, MPS recommends starting on Tatooine, at the city of Mos Eisley to rapidly advance your Pistol skills. So after creating your SWG alter ego, ensure you choose Mos Eisley as your starting location. Preparing for Battle After appearing in Mos Eisley, follow these step by step instructions to get in position to start the race to Novice Pistoleer. It’s time to start that clock now…….the goal is 5 hours. 1. Bring up your inventory (Ctrl+I), ensure your CDEF pistol is equipped. 2. Bring up your map (Ctrl+M), and navigate your way to the outskirts of the city. You want to position yourself right around the walls of Mos Eisley. This is where you’ll be doing your Leveling for the first hour of this tutorial. 3. Make sure you have the special skill “Overcharge Shot” placed on one of your UI Toolbar slots at the top of your screen. Bring up your command browser (Ctrl+A) and click on the combat tab. Drag the “Overcharge Shot 1” special move up to your UI toolbar at the top of the screen, and drop it into the F key slot you’ll be most comfortable using. 4. Get ready for Battle! Leveling Pistols 1: Short Range Combat and Ranged Support I: Aim & Threaten Time to Complete: 20 Minutes Qualifying Run: Ok, now it’s time for some action. Position your character about 100 meters from the city walls, and start circling the city. At this point in the game, you’re pretty weak so attracting more than 1 creature at a time will likely spell your premature death, so you’ll be targeting each creature one at a time, last thing you want is 5 Worrts on your tail when you barely have enough skill to kill a single creature. When you’ve got your bearings, and feel comfortable, get your first target in your sites by hitting tab. Now, open fire using Overcharge shot. When the creature begins to chase you, backpedal and do your best to create as much distance between you and your target, this will help you keep your damage down. Don’t be alarmed if it begins to hit you, your CDEF pistol is pretty weak and you still have poor aim, but Overcharge helps even the playing field…you have the advantage. After you drop the first creature, don’t bother harvesting it, just repeat the process with a new target. Your goal is to kill 30-35 animals using this method. At that point, you’ll be alerted that you have enough experience to qualify for Pistols 1: Short Range Combat, as well as Ranged Support I: Aim & Threaten. Creatures to Target: Rockmites Lesser Womp Rats Womp Rats Rills Worrts Notes: - Using Overcharge Shot damages your weapon slowly, but with this method you’ll only be using your CDEF pistol for about an hour, so no need to worry. - You’ll need 1000 Pistols XP to qualify for Pistols 1: Short Range Combat. To track your XP, bring up your skills tree (Ctrl+S). Getting Trained Ok so you’ve slaughtered all the low level creatures necessary to qualify for Pistols 1, and now you need to get trained. This is the easy part! Just head back to the Starport in town (/find starport). Once you’re at the Starport ask some people if they would be kind enough to teach you “Pistols 1” and “Ranged Support 1”, within a few minutes……if not seconds you’ll be fully versed in both skills thanks to your peers. Getting Pocket Change: We're all about speed in this endeavor, so running 10 delivery missions for credits isn't going to happen. To reach Pistoleer in our targeted time of 5 hours, there will be a few times you'll need to beg, plea and grovel for credits…..and this is one of them. If you are adverse to panhandling…TOO BAD! POLITELY ask around for some credits. Explain you are a new player, and you need to get a pistol better than a CDEF. Ask if they would be so nice as to give you 2500 credits so you can buy a DL44 pistol. Ask around for 5 minutes, and you’ll soon have your 2500 (probably more) credits and be ready to move onto the next section of this tutorial. Leveling Pistols 2: Light Sidearms Time to Complete: 40 Minutes Qualifying Run: Good job! You’re ready to tackle the second step of your quest to become a Novice Pistoleer, and you should have reached this section in no more than 30-40 minutes. The first thing you’ll need to do is put some of those credits to use, and buy a DL44 or DL44 Metal Pistol. These pistols are anywhere from 200%-400% stronger than your standard CDEF pistol, so you’ll be able to drop creatures MUCH faster, and without the aid of Overcharge Shot. Head to the local bazaar and shop around for a DL44 pistol. If there isn’t a DL44 pistol for sale in Mos Eisley, search the entire planet by changing the “This Region” bazaar setting to “This Planet”. Once you’ve spotted the DL44 pistols, check each of them out for their respective speeds and damage ratings. Anything above 100 for max damage is a good deal, and shouldn’t cost you more than 1500 credits. Go ahead and purchase the pistol, if it is located in Mos Eisley go ahead and retrieve it, if it’s in another city on Tatooine hop the next shuttle to that town and pick up your new pistol. After obtaining the pistol, equip it in your inventory, and head back to Mos Eisley. Once back in Mos Eisley, head back to your hunting spot 100 meters or so away from the city walls. Hit Ctrl+A to bring up your Command Browser, and click the combat tab. You’ll notice you have a new ability “BodyShot1”, you’ll be using this special move the same way you used Overcharge Shot in the previous section. Your goal in this stage is to kill 60-70 creatures. This will go MUCH faster with your new DL44 pistol! The creatures will drop like flies, just make sure to use bodyshot1. Keep killing creatures until you are notified you qualify for “Pistols II: Light Sidearms”. This should take you about 45 minutes tops. After this, head back to the local starport or cantina and find a willing teacher. After you’re trained for Pistols 2, it’s time to head off the planet and find some larger game! Creatures to Target: Rockmites Lesser Womp Rats Womp Rats Rills Worrts Leveling Pistols 3: Medium Sidearms Time to Complete: 50 Minutes Qualifying Run: Ok you’re about 33% to your target goal of becoming a Novice Pistoleer. Now it’s time to venture off Tatooine, and set your sites for the lovely hunting grounds of Restuss, Rori. You’ll need to make a connection on your way to Restuss, Rori on Naboo. So head back to the Mos Eisley Starport and purchase a one way ticket to Theed, Naboo. Once you reach Theed, purchase another ticket to Restuss, Rori. After reaching Restuss, head due south out of town about 600-700 meters. At this point you’ll be surrounded by a bunch of small islands and streams. On each of these islands there is typically a lair spawning certain creatures. The creatures you want to target are the following, any type of “Squall”, or any type of “Vir Vur”. All of these animals are extremely slow and you can outrun them easily just with a standard jog. For this stage, I recommend Vir Vurs over squalls. Vir Vurs give out 700-1100 Pistol XP per kill, and you run zero risk of them actually incapping or killing you. They do group together, so shoot one and every other vir vur in the area will begin chasing you. This isn’t a problem though, just target the vir vur you want to take down first, and start backpedaling while tapping your bodyshot key. It will take you about 2-3 minutes to kill a vir vur, depending on the strength of your newly acquired DL44 pistol. You’ll need to kill 15-20 Vir Vurs to qualify for Pistols III. Once you’ve killed the required amount of vir vurs, you’ll be alerted you qualify for Pistols 3. At this point, burst run back towards Restuss. Restuss is not a very crowded city, so the Cantina will likely be empty, so head for the local Starport to find a teacher. After you’ve been taught Pistols 3, you will have acquired “BodyShot2”. At this point, try to get 5000 credits (total) from some of your fellow adventurers and check the local bazaar for a Scout Pistol. Scout Pistols capable of doling out 175 damage are very common. See if you can find one in the 3000 credit range. If you can’t find one on Rori, head back to Naboo and check there. After you have acquired your Scout Blaster, head back to the Starport and back to Rori. Creatures to Target: Squalls (any variety) Vir Vurs (any variety) Leveling Pistols 4: Medium Sidearms Time to Complete: 120 Minutes Qualifying Run: This is where things start to get repetitive. You’ll need to CONTINUE focusing your efforts on the local Rori Vir Vurs to reach your new goal of a WHOPPING 70,000 Pistols XP. This is the final, most grueling lap. Make sure you’ve got some snacks and soda, because this stage will take you about 2 and a half hours to complete! However, once you’re done here you’ll be ready to head back to Tatooine and get trained in our target profession, Novice Pistoleer. First thing you’ll need to do is create a macro for this stage. After acquiring BodyShot2, you have a new potent weapon in the fight against Vir Vurs. When used in tandem BodyShot1 and BodyShot2 will allow you to take down Vir Vurs at a much faster rate than before. Hit Ctrl+A to bring up your command browser and click the macro tab. Click “New Macro” and enter the following commands, and assign it an icon. /bodyshot1;/bodyshot2 After creating the macro, drag it up to your UI toolbar at the top of the screen, and assign it to an F key. After creating your macro, hit up the local bazaar and buy some level A stimpacks. Using the above macro will drain your action pool much faster than just bodyshot1, so every once and a while you’ll need to boost your action pool with the help of some pharmaceuticals. Buy 10-15 Stimpacks (one lot usually comes with 10-20) and head back south of Restuss, about 600-700 meters. Once again, begin targeting Vir Vurs, just like you did for Pistols III. To get enough experience to qualify for Pistols IV, you’ll need to take down 85-95 Vir Vurs. After you’ve been alerted you qualify for Pistols IV, burst run back to the Restuss Starport and ask some of your fellow adventurers for training in Pistols IV. Also be sure to stock up on some more Stimpack A units....you'll need them for the final run. Creatures to Target: Squalls (any variety) Vir Vurs (any variety) Leveling Novice Pistoleer Time to Complete: 120 Minutes Qualifying Run: Massive repetition, yes, but you're seeing serious results......you've already reached a level which typically takes DAYS UPON DAYS for most to mbaster. Now, it's the final stretch.....it's time to get 125,000 MORE Pistols XP to qualify for Pistoleer! At this point, stay focused on the Vir Vurs, and expand your search to local "Leviasqualls". Leviasqualls give out 1900 XP per kill, and you can kite up to 15 bunnies at a time. Best thing about this? You can take down all these bunnies in half the time it took you previously, thanks to your newly acquired skill "HealthShot1". HealthShot1 causes your targets to bleed, and lose health on a continuous basis...even if you aren't attacking them. First thing you’ll need to do is add the HealthShot special move to your UI toolbar, you know the routine by now...Ctrl+A, combat tab, drag the icon up to the F toolbar. Now, continue to use your macro you used when leveling up Pistols 4 (bodyshot combo), but first get as many bunnies as possible to start chasing you. I'm talking 15-20 bunnies at a time, 3 or 4 are counterproductive. If you need to shoot their lair to draw out more bunnies, by all means do so, this will make this entire process go MUCH faster. Once you have the bunnies chasing you, do the following: 1. Target a bunny, and fire a healthshot. Make sure it connects. 2. Repeat step 1 for each bunny which is following you. At this point the vile rabbits are ALREADY losing health automatically...and you aren't even shooting them! They will all bleed to death if you let them, but the goal here is speed, so keep using that bodyshot macro from the last section, and take them down fast! It's quite easy to drop 15 Vir Vurs or Leviasqualls in under 15 minutes using this method. With Leviasqualls 15 confirmed kills equates to 28,500 XP. Do this 5 times and you're golden...and ready to advance. If you aren't able to locate Leviasqualls stick to the run of the mill Vir Vurs, and you'll need to take out a few more mobs but will still get you in at under 6 hours. After you’ve been alerted you qualify for Novice Pistoleer, burst run back to the Restuss Starport and buy a ticket for Theed, Naboo. Once you’ve reached Theed, buy another ticket for your original homebase of Mos Eisley, Tatooine. Creatures to Target: Squalls (any variety) Vir Vurs (any variety) Leviasqualls Conclusion: Getting Trained as a Novice Pistoleer Time to Complete: 10 Minutes Now we make the final journey back to our original stomping grounds, it’s only been around 5 hours……but those Vir Vurs can make it feel like 5 days. Are their squeals and squeaks haunting you yet? After you have ensured you’ve received your Pistols IV training, and have arrived in Mos Eisley, head to coordinates 3358 -4837 (/waypoint 3348 -4837). At this location you’ll find the holy grail, the Pistoleer Trainer! Talk to the trainer, and get the skill you have coveted……NOVICE PISTOLEER! Congratulations, you’ve just become a Pistoleer in 6 hours!
