From the Desk of

4/30/2004 Dear Sewing Friend:

I just about fell over when the store clerk at the decorator fabric store quoted me a price of $2568.12 to make two lined roman shades for my windows.

Let me explain.

My mother-in-law is an incredibly generous person. For christmas every year she treats me to a gift that averages in price around $500.

I told you she was generous. And yes, I'm very lucky to have her.

But, that's not the point to this story... so please stick with me.

For this past christmas, she offered to pay for custom window treatments for the two windows in my living room... I have a fairly small home... a townhouse located in northern virginia.

I, of course, was very excited about this gift idea. Wouldn't you be?

So, she took me to the fabric store to pick out my fabric. You see, I already knew that I wanted roman shades to dress up my windows... so all I had to do was pick out my fabric.

After picking out my fabric and lining... the very helpful lady at the counter quoted me $511.25 for the fabric and $2056.87 for the labor to make the shades. A grand total of $2568.12 for just two window treatments!

Ok, I admit... I was very naive about all of this. I wasn't a "sewer"... sure I took a sewing class in middle school, but that's about the extent of my experience. So, how was I supposed to know professionally made shades would cost so much?

Well, my mother-in-law turns to me and says, "You would just kill yourself if you knew how easy roman shades are to make."

Needless to say, I was stunned.

This whole time... I had forgotten that she is a very experienced seamstress. She used to sew all of her children's clothes when they were little.

So, I asked her, "Can you show me how to make them?"

My mother-in-law cheerfully replied, "Well... I've never actually made roman shades before... but I've seen it done. Lets take a class and make them together."

So, we did. And you're probably thinking that this a very boring end to the story...

But this is not the end of the story! In fact, what I share with you next will help you understand why you are reading this in the first place... it may even anger you... outrage you...

So, keep reading...

We received our supply list in the mail... which was incredibly vague... so, we did the best we could.

During our class, the instructor explained to us what dimensions our fabric should be cut to... which by the way seemed to contradict the written instructions she handed us... but, hey what did I know?

My mother-in-law sewed one shade and I sewed the other. They looked pretty good and I was so excited to get them home and hang them in my windows.

So, I came home... installed my hardware to hang the shade... and hung my shade.

And guess what?

The shades were almost 2 inches too narrow!

I was so angry! Actually, at first I was confused... so I pulled out the written instructions and the supply list and compared the two...

The written instructions were confusing enough, but one thing was for sure... the supply list included directions on how to determine the finished shade width and length... the instructions explained it differently... and the instructor was even more confusing.

So... this was one heck of an expensive mistake. It took 2 weeks of about an hour a night with my mother-in-law to rip out the stitching in the shades and "fix" them so that they would look half decent in my windows.

How angry and disappointed do you think I was?

I thought, "There's got to be an easier way"... sure, I saved thousands of dollars... but the time and frustration that I went through some how discounted this.

That's when I decided that there should be a resource that spells out every step to making roman shades. A resource that doesn't assume anything... one that has clear illustrations and easy step-by-step instructions. A resource that is for all levels of sewers... a resource that guarantees that you will be able to make your very own professional quality roman shades. --> Dear Friend,

Now back to my letter....

Sounds too good to be true?

Well, it isn't if you have the right information.

The fact is, most people end up spending hundreds to thousands of dollars to have creative, professional window treatments on their windows.

I just recently put a contract on a home to be built. And I fell in love with the way the model home was decorated.

How can you not? The builder pays top dollar for an interior decorating company to decorate the house from top to bottom... including the custom window treatments.

As I walked through, I found myself wishing I had window treatments like the ones I saw.... and then it hit me!

Why can't I have them? I'll just make them!

I first went out and bought some window treatment books to learn how to make them.

And that was very unsuccessful.

Problem is... most window treatment resources only show you the basics. And even then, the instructions are vague and confusing. I've made far too many expensive mistakes with some of these books.

Then there are the beautiful, photo-filled books... that are wonderful inspirations, but don't show you how to make the beautiful window treatments you see in the photos.

That's when I decided that there should be a resource that not only gives you ideas for interesting, creative window treatments... but also spells out every step to making them. A resource that doesn't assume anything... one that has clear illustrations and easy step-by-step instructions. A resource that is for all levels of sewers... a resource that guarantees that you will be able to make your very own professional quality window treatments and valances.

Think about it. In order to make the window treatments you want for your home, you need a simple, step-by-step, well-illustrated guide to show you how.

How do you learn?

Fact is, 80% of the population learn by pictures. Are you one of these people? Detailed instruction in words alone is not enough... and vague instruction is worse.

Most window treatment resources today are full of beautiful photos, but lack the detailed information to show you how to actually make them. They only show you the main steps and summarize the beginner steps. They do not spell out everything you need to know and DO, to successfully make window treatments. And that's the plain and simple truth.

Simply put, a simple, step-by-step, well-illustrated guide is what will take you from an idea to beautifully designed and professionally created window treatments for your home.

But Finding That Perfect
Step-by-step Manual Is The Hard Part...

It could take you years and can cost you a small fortune to figure out all the techniques and tricks to sew the custom window treatments you want for your window.

But instead of knocking yourself out trying to find a resource that will explain and show you how to exactly make the window treatments you want, you can now have it inside a new information packed, easy-to-understand, easy-to-follow, well-illustrated, step-by-step guide called:

"How To Make Window Valances"

At last! Every piece of information you need
to make professional window valances...

I know you're probably still skeptical and a bit on the conservative side, but think about this - if you keep doing the same things over and over again - you'll only succeed in getting the same results. That's why I want to let you try out my proven step-by-step window valance guide - completely and totally risk-free! (I'll tell you about my unique guarantee in a moment.)
