Dear Friend,
Imagine your life like this:
-
Twisting easily to hit a tennis ball, swing a golf club, or just to see what’s behind you as you pull out of your driveway
-
Walking confidently along the lakefront, enjoying a cool summer breeze
-
Enjoying a 400-mile drive to a weekend resort
-
Riding your bike comfortably and safely
-
Standing at your kitchen counter, enjoying the color and rhythm of chopping fresh vegetables
-
Snuggling up with a good book
Sciatica hurts. You know that or you wouldn’t be here. The good news is that a few simple exercises can reduce — and in some cases virtually eliminate — your sciatic nerve pain without steroids, surgery, or even sweat. It couldn’t be easier. Relieve sciatic nerve pain quickly
In January of 1995 I was in severe pain and had been for months! Maybe I hurt myself when I started weight lifting. Maybe it was just stress. I was 42, newly married to a 29 year-old man, mother of a 12 year-old girl — hormones! — managing a work team that included an old boyfriend, and working far too many hours a week.
Whatever the cause, the pain was excruciating. Hard wooden seats were a particular problem, though cushioned ones weren’t exactly a picnic!
You may be familiar with that type of pain. Pain so bad it hurts to lie in bed. Pain so bad that you wait until no one is around before getting out of your chair.
“Good grief! Don’t let them see how long it takes me to get up!”
It can make driving to work — and even sleeping — nearly impossible. It takes a toll on you. And it takes a toll on your family.
So I visited my doctor. She offered epidural cortisone shots (steroids?!) and—if that didn’t do the trick—surgery. I trust my doctor, but I didn’t like her recommendations. My friend Judy—also suffering from sciatica—got cortisone shots so that she could fly to Hawaii for a sales conference. Judy felt no pain and had a great time. But when those shots wore off, her sciatic pain was worse than ever! Not the ending I wanted for my story! And not the ending you want for yours!
So I did some research and I found out about little-known method invented by a mechanical engineer. By the end of February of 1995 I had alleviated my own sciatic pain without shots or surgery. Just by doing a few gentle exercises that didn’t even raise a sweat. Exercises that consisted mostly of getting to know how the position of my skeleton affects my nervous and muscular systems.
It’s eight years later and I still pay attention to the position of my skeleton and I still do those simple, gentle exercises. The payoff? I’ve never had another sciatica attack. True…if I sit cross-legged on a bare, hardwood floor for an hour…or if I work too many hours at my computer without paying attention to how I sit ….I do get an ache or a numbness.
But those feelings just remind me to get back on track before things get worse.
What is this secret method?
The method was developed by a man who was both mechanical engineer and athlete. When the pain of old knee injuries became too much for him to deal with, this man considered surgery. His doctors told him that surgery might help him, or it might make it more difficult for him to walk. Instead of giving up hope, the man studied anatomy and physiology … and rehabilitated himself…and taught others.
You can learn more about the man, the method he invented, and its application to sciatica in Stop Sciatica Now.
Learn how “better body habits” can prevent pain
Working with a practitioner of this method is like working with a coach. A coach trained to observe…how you stand at a counter…how you walk across a room…, how you sit at a desk. A coach who can teach you how to move and sit and stand more efficiently.
In classes or in private sessions, a certified practioner teaches you to pay attention to the position of your skeleton as you go through your daily activities. Very quickly you begin to feel some real differences! And because you learn how to make those differences yourself, you can do the exercises any time….anywhere. Some exercises just look like mild fidgeting. So you can do them in public with no embarrassment!
My coach was Pamela Kihm. After working with her for about a month, my sciatic pain was gone. And it’s been under control ever since.
Pamela Kihm didn’t give me a fish. Pamela Kihm taught me how to fish!
It’s eight years later and I’ve never had another sciatica attack. The funny thing is…I didn’t realize how unusual eight years without sciatica pain is until just a few months ago. When it finally did occur to me, I called Pamela immediately and asked her to write a book to help other sciatica sufferers.
Unlike any other book about sciatica, Stop Sciatica Now explains how the position of your skeleton affects your sciatica. And how to sit, stand, and walk in ways that minimize pressure on your sciatic nerve. Think about it this way.
Carpenters and bricklayers use a plumb line to help them build straight walls. In its simplest form, a plumb line is a heavy string with a weight on one end. If the string gets tangled…if someone adds another weight in the wrong place…you could end up with a crooked wall.
Time … bad habits …injury. They can all tangle your body so that it doesn’t operate as well as it could. Using the methods taught in Stop Sciatica Now, you can change that.
A pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or electric shock-like feelings that follow the path of the sciatic nerve; sometimes even down into the foot.
Some medical experts say sciatica is a diagnosis ....like diabetes or asthma. Others may not even use the term, saying that sciatica is "only" a collection of symptoms that can result from a multitude of causes. Causes like --
-
A herniated lumbar disc, also called a pinched nerve or slipped disc -- The most common cause of sciatica
-
Piriformis syndrome -- A common cause of sciatica
-
Fibromyalgia -- Very rare
-
The list of possible causes is long. The effect is the same -- some part of your body is pinching or otherwise irritating your sciatic nerve. But it doesn’t stop there.
You have a choice. Take drugs...cortisone shots, a Vicodan patch, or some other narcotic...to mask the pain.
Or do something to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve.
The sooner you can relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve, the sooner you can get relief from the pain and numbness. Surgery can relieve that pressure. But surgery poses its own problems…Health problems….Pocketbook problems.
Worse yet, surgery doesn’t change your “body habits.” So you may still be walking, sitting, and standing in ways that irritate your sciatic nerve. And sooner or later, that will catch up with you.
Only your doctor can tell you what’s pinching your sciatic nerve… a swelling … bone deterioration … etc. But whatever the cause, the exercises in Stop Sciatica Now can help you relieve the pressure without surgery.
Maybe you haven't exercised regularly for years. It doesn’t matter. These easy-to-do exercises are designed to help you learn to sit and stand and move in nearly effortless ways.
