Why do I get heartburn?
Heartburn and acid reflux can be the result of a variety of things. Some of these can be: Digestive problems, a damaged lower esophageal sphincter, an over acidic stomach, eating a large meal or H. pylori bacterium.
The majority of people experience heartburn because they have damaged their (LES) lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus. Injury from heartburn can vary from being minor to being extensive. However it is easily cured!
Heartburn, acid reflux happens when abrasions on the esophagus are brought into contact with fumes from the stomach acid. This can cause a lot of pain - best described as a burning sensation in the chest. It's the same feeling as getting acid on a cut.
If someone is experiencing pain when they drink acidic juice (like orange or tomato) they probably have a damaged esophagus. People who don't feel pain obviously don't get heartburn or acid reflux because their digestive system is in good health.

What is Heartburn?
Heartburn is a pain behind the breast bone, often described as ‘burning’ in quality. Pain can also be felt at the same level in the mid-line of the back. Heartburn is one of those conditions that almost everyone will face at some point in their lives. In truth, heartburn is not about the heart - it is a digestive trouble. As heartburn is often the result of meals or posture, common indigestion treatments will often solve it.
What Causes Heartburn?
Food is digested by acid in the stomach. You get heartburn when tiny amounts of stomach acid ascend into the gullet (esophagus) - the tube which transports food from the mouth down into the stomach. The acid rising is called reflux.
