For those who don't follow the s-league, Sinchi TV is an invited team from China. They have been playing in the s-league since last season. Last season they finished in 7th place out of 12 teams. The management decided it wasn't good enough, so the whole squad except 2, were all changed. New players arrived from China to form the team. Despite the change, the team hasn't shown much improvement. In fact they looked worst then their predecessors. They lost all their 5 opening games and this prompted the angry management to annouce that if the team doesn't show any improvement, they will cease their participation in the league come next season. Somehow the strong words got the Chinese players going and they drew their next match against Albirex and then got their 1st win against cellar dwellers Tanjong Pagar last week. So the team is showing improvement, but still i have my doubts about them. In the Albirex game they were contend to pack their defence and both their goals were pretty lucky ones, the 1st being a total fluke. Although they beat Tanjong Pagar by 3-1, the report suggest that the match was much closer than the result indicated. Read More

Home United v Balestier Khalsa (0:2 1/2)

I think the bookies are probably over-reacting to the 6-1 thrashing of league leaders Woodlands by Home United last week to have set the handicap of this game at 0:2 1/2. Yes, the defending champions might have humiliated Woodlands' last week, but it have to said that the game was played in an water-logged pitch which didn't allow good football. Even in that win, they weren't all that convincing to me. Woodlands pressed at the start of the game and might have went ahead if striker Park Kang Guy had been less wasteful with the 1-on-1 chance. After the Protectors scored their 2nd, Woodlands just gave up. The main problem with the home side this season is in their usually reliable defence. The central pairing of Aide and Subramani used to work so well for them in the past but this season they have already let in 11 goals in 7 games, many of which were mistakes of either 1 of them. To make things worst, Subramani is suspended for this game after getting sent off last week. Read More

Jamaica entertains Venezuela in a friendly game and the bookies have set the asianhandicap at 0:0. On this handicap i think it's worth backing the home side. They have already beaten strong South American sides like Uruguay and Paraguay. Venezuela are doing pretty well in the World Cup Qualifiers. But that is pretty much because of their strong home form. Morrocco plays host to Argentine with a mission in this match. They are to show the world that they are capable of good football especially playing against the giants of South American football. This is just not any other match, but a match which Morroca will want to show that they are capable of playing good football and also be a good host as they attempt to bid to host the 2010 World Cup. Morocco of course is just one of the candidates among Egypt, Libya, South Africa and Tunisia that is bidding to host the prestigious event and the results will be known on the May 15th. As it stands now Morroco as well as South Africa are the two leading sides to host the Finals in 2010. As such an important event coming up which is like judgement day for the Morrocco side, their national team will fight tooth and nail not to get beaten on home soil in this match. Therefore even though it is a friendly, I will go for the underdogs Morrocco in this match and accept the 1/2 ball for a draw match here. Read More

Czech Republic finished the Euro 2004 qualifiers winning their group ahead of giants Holland and showed the world they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in Portugal come June. For this friendly game in Prague, coach Bruckner has almost a full squad to choose from, with Ajax defender Grygera the only absentee. The Czechs have always taken friendlies pretty seriously, especially when playing at home. After the world cup, Japan has struggled to find consistent form. Last month, they were here in Singapore to play a Asian Cup Qualifier match. Everyone expected the team to win by a big margin as all the European based players were in the starting 11. However the Japs struggled and only a late goal secured them a 2-1 narrow win. The defence looked particularly shaky. Just last weekend, the Japs started their Europe tour with a 2-3 defeat at the hands of Hungary. For this game, they have some notable absentees. Nakamura (Reggina), Takahara (Hamburg), defenders Mijamoto and Nakazawa are all out while captain Nakata(Bologna) is a doubt. Czechs are rightly favouritesand i support them to beat the 11/4 handicap. Read More

Woodlands Wellington v Young Lions U-23 (0:3/4)

After 6 wins on a trot, league leaders Woodlands was brought back to earth last week when they crashed 1-6 to the defending champions Home United. To me the result wasn't a total surprise, cos i've watched them in their previous few games prior to the defeat and they were not at all convincing to me. Particularly in their 3-2 win over Japanese side Albirex. They took a 3-0 lead inside the first 10 mins and were cruising in the entire 1st half. However in the 2nd half, the fit young Japanese lads took total control of the game and really ran and the home side ragged and got 2 goals back. The home side could only respond by commiting fouls and delibrate time wasting, which was pretty "disgusting" to me and the rest of the fans at the stadium.
In Park Kang Guy, Woodlands has discovered a gem of a striker. The Korean has already netted 8 times in 7 games this season. Incidentally the Korean was signed on to replace Agu Casmir, who turns up for the Young Lions now. Read More

Big game in the Bundesliga 2. Leaders Nurnberg takes on 4th place Aachen in a match that have serious impacts on both team's promotion ambitions. Leaders Nurnberg are level on points with Bielefeld and 2 points ahead of 3rd place Cottbus. So they are not breathing easily. However they have played a game less so a win in this game would bring them 3 points clear with 4 games left to play. Nurnberg's home form has been very good this season. They have won 11 drawn 3 and lost only once at home so far, scoring 31 and conceding only 10 goals in the process. Very impressive indeed. Read More
