A sensational and challenging critical review of modern Freemasonry which has been turned upside-down and inside-out in an attempt to answer the question that most non-Masons ask and most Masons think about but don’t ask – ‘What is it really all about?’
You won’t find any fanciful theories here about devil worship or world domination but a serious attempt at understanding the motivations of those that have blindly kept the masonic institution going for almost three hundred years, the psychological mechanisms behind the ritual and the real reason why there is a fundamental need for obligations and secrecy.
The author (not an anti-mason) spent 20 years on the inside looking out and then another 10 years on the outside looking back in. He controversially concludes that not only is the obligation-taking process a complete sham, but that we've all been hoodwinked into one of the longest running pyramid scams the world has known.
Many long standing Masons have found themselves revisiting much of what they took for granted and even those that find his conclusions uncomfortable or unacceptable, have never-the-less commented that they derived much benefit from the quality of writing and depth of research. Those thinking about joining have found the book particularly useful as they have been able to make informed decisions. Masonic wives have gained a greater understanding of their husband’s involvement and curious non-Masons will feel some sympathy towards the average man on the square. "Freemasonry Inside-Out" is an authoritative, well argued, comprehensively sourced and an extremely well written account of the 'possible' dark side of Freemasonry. However, the sobering quality of the cogent arguments makes for healthy self questioning, introspection and a vital examination of ones own motives and intentions. What "Freemasonry Inside-Out" did do is keep me up all night reading it voraciously. Well written and argued it is. What is has also done is make we rethink, and a period of reflection will direct my thoughts to closer examination of the ritual and what I am doing it all for. The whistle stop tour of the known history is succinct, and well worth reading by all Brethren. ST (JW)
