I had a very bad snoring problem.

In my youth it plagued me - going out on trips with friends I would keep them up all night by snoring.

Later when I got married I started to become desperate to fix my problem. I experimented with nearly every snoring medication there was - pills, sprays and creams. I even wore those farcical contraptions in my mouth. Nothing worked and my snoring seemed incurable.

Snoring Facts

  • Snoring develops in situations where the air passage is blocked, thereby inhibiting normal breathing while sleeping.


  • Breathing through the mouth (as a result of a nasal blockage) can cause snoring. The uvula can block the back of the throat if the tongue pushes it back when the mouth is open.


  • The muscles in the throat are kept open while a person is awake, but when they are asleep they relax and close up. Snoring happens when these muscles become too relaxed and start to block the throat.


  • The noise level of snoring increases as the breathing passage becomes more blocked.


  • An air blockage whereby the muscles of the throat either become too lax or swell can be caused by alcohol, smoking, sleeping pills, blocked nose, sinusitis, enlarged tonsils, allergies to dust, mold, wheat or eggs, cough mixture containing dextromethorphan and excess body weight.
