Snoring Facts

  • Snoring develops in situations where the air passage is blocked, thereby inhibiting normal breathing while sleeping.


  • Breathing through the mouth (as a result of a nasal blockage) can cause snoring. The uvula can block the back of the throat if the tongue pushes it back when the mouth is open.


  • Snoring is noisier the more the airway is blocked.


  • Muscles in the airway are kept open when you are awake, but sag inwards during sleep. Snoring happens when these muscles become too relaxed and start to block the throat.
